This pet is being fostered in Jeffersonville, which is about 10 minutes from downtown Louisville, KY. Sam I am, or Uncle Sam, (as we are calling him b/c he was found on July 4th), is just a real sweetheart. He is small, and weighs about 13 pounds. He is about 1.5 -2 years old. He is a chihuahua/Russell mix, and we were certain that someone would come looking for him, but we can't believe they didn't!!! He was very thin when we found him, and had clearly been on his own for a while. After we rescued him we realized that he is scared men, so it seems that a man was very mean to Sam in his life, and he has never forgotten it. Sam I am LOVES affection and he just wants to be beside you or on your lap! He loves to go on walks and to be babied! He is also very athletic, so if you are interested in agility, he would be a GREAT candidate for it! Sam LOVES to give kisses to you too! We become easily frustrated b/c people will EASILY adopt a puppy, but then not train them properly, and need to find another home for them when they are starting to exhibit bad behavior patterns, i.e, biting, jumping, etc. Usually around 3-9 months old. By that time, they are not cute, "small", or very puppy. It is very important that you go to a dog obedience class with your new pet! This will greatly help them and you learn how to properly teach good habits, instill discipline, and learn effective training techniques. Obedience training also helps older dogs who are going into a new home/environment as well! The window of opportunity for establishing good behavior patterns and strategies for both puppy and dog is limited!
